The race to develop a Covid-19 vaccine has reached important turning points.

In the US, the federal government is expected to pay for development, and many companies have also committed to selling the vaccine non-profit in addition to companies that insist they need to make a profit.

AstraZeneca

In an interview with the media in the second quarter, a representative of pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for the first time revealed that the expected price of the Covid-19 ChAdOx vaccine is 3-4 USD for an injection.

AstraZeneca emphasized that the pandemic is a serious global problem, implying that vaccine pricing must be done responsibly.

Johnson & Johnson

In August, the pharmaceutical giant in the US reached an agreement to supply vaccines to the US government, costing about 10 USD per vaccine shot.

Johnson & Johnson is also committed to providing non-profit vaccines during the pandemic.

Pfizer

In July this year, Pfizer signed an agreement with the US government, agreeing to sell the vaccine for 39 USD per dose of two shots (19.5 USD per shot).

`We strive to pursue a balanced approach between capital and investment, planning to price the vaccine below market price. This ensures people everywhere in the world can access vaccination. I

On November 11, the European Commission plans to discuss a contract to purchase 300 million doses of vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech.

Moderna

In its second quarter revenue announcement, Moderna revealed that the mRNA-1273 vaccine will cost from 32-37 USD per shot (two shots cost about 70 USD), quite high compared to rival brands such as Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and

Moderna said the suddenly high vaccine price was due to the size and timing of the orders.

Moderna targets the US market.

Because the Moderna vaccine has a high price and is produced in cooperation with the US government, the rest of the world will have to wait a while for distribution.

SinoPharm

SinoPharm, a Chinese state-owned pharmaceutical company, is developing two vaccines in parallel, collaborating with the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products and the Beijing Institute of Biological Products.

In an interview with Chinese media in August, Mr. Liu Jingzhen, CEO of SinoPharm, said: `The expected cost for one injection is several hundred yuan. Two injections should cost about 1,000 yuan.`

SinoVac pharmaceutical company employees are working on the vaccine production line.

He said that this price is `not too expensive`.

Two other pharmaceutical companies in China, CanSino and SinoVac, have not yet announced the expected price of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Russia gets free injections

To date, the Gamaleya Institute has not announced the official price of the Sputnik V vaccine. However, on July 24, Moscow City Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that he would vaccinate the capital’s residents for free with the Covid-19 vaccine.

The head of the Russian National Investment Fund, sponsoring the trials, hopes Russia will produce 200 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine with foreign partners by the end of 2020.
