Ronan Hughes, 40 years old, and his younger brother Christopher Hughes, 34 years old, are wanted by British police on suspicion of manslaughter and human trafficking in the case of 39 people dying in the back of a truck in Essex County, England on September 23.

British media reported that Ronan called the police to find out information about Mo Robinson, the truck driver who carried 39 bodies, right after Robinson was arrested in Grays, Essex on October 23.

“Ronan Hughes called the police in the UK from his mobile phone shortly after 2am last Wednesday (October 23).

“Ronan Hughes confirmed he knew Robinson and attempted to answer questions.

On October 30, Essex Police issued an arrest warrant and published images of the two Hughes brothers, who are operating a transportation business on the Northern Ireland border.

Ronan Hughes is suspected of renting a freezer to transport 39 victims from another Irish company, Global Trailer Rentals (GTR), headquartered in Dublin, Ireland.

`Finding and speaking with the Hughes brothers is important to our investigation,` said Police Chief Stuart Hooper.

On October 28, Chelmsford Criminal Court held the first trial for driver Mo Robinson, 25 years old, from Northern Ireland.

Previously, Essex County Police said Robinson was indicted on charges including manslaughter, conspiracy to traffic people, conspiracy to assist illegal immigration and money laundering.

Robinson was the person who drove the truck tractor from Dublin, Ireland to Purfleet port in Essex, England to receive refrigerated boxes that had just been transported by ferry from Zeebrugge port, Belgium.

At Waterglade, Robinson opened the truck’s trunk to retrieve documents and discovered 39 people dead inside.

In addition to Robinson, British police arrested three other suspects related to the deaths of 39 victims in the truck.

In another related development, the 23-year-old driver from Northern Ireland, who transported a refrigerated box containing 39 victims to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge on October 23, appeared in court in Dublin on the afternoon of October 30.

Police arrested the driver when he arrived at Dublin port after a ferry from France on October 26.
