Canadian court documents show that Ms. Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei Group, China, who was arrested in Vancouver last week, held up to 7 passports, including 4 Chinese passports and three passports.

`Over the past 11 years, Ms. Meng has been issued no less than 7 different passports from both China and Hong Kong,` a letter sent from the US Department of Justice to Canada read, warning about the risk that Huawei executives could abandon

A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Immigration Department declined to comment on individual cases but confirmed that passport holders of the special zone can only possess one valid passport at each issuance.

`Cross-linking a Hong Kong passport means using both the old and new passport at the same time to take advantage of the valid visa on the old passport, but the old passport itself will still be canceled,` the spokesperson said.

According to the South China Morning Post, Ms. Meng appears to only own one valid Hong Kong passport but carries two old passports because they still have visas.

Hong Kong legal experts and politicians question why Ms. Meng can own so many Hong Kong passports.

Law expert at the University of Hong Kong Eric Cheung Tat-ming noted that all three of Meng’s passports begin with the symbol `KJ`, indicating that they were issued in quick succession and that she used up many passports.

However, according to a government source, all Hong Kong passports begin with the letter `K`, while `KJ` only indicates that the passport has more pages than usual (48 pages instead of
