The German Ambassador highlighted the significance of President Steinmeier’s visit to Vietnam

(Dan Tri) – On the occasion of President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier about to pay a state visit to Vietnam, German Ambassador to Vietnam Guido Hildner stated the meaning and goals of the visit.

Accepting the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his wife, President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife will pay a state visit to Vietnam on January 23-24.

This is the second time Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier has visited Vietnam, previously in October 2016 when he was German Foreign Minister.

Sharing with the press on this occasion, German Ambassador to Vietnam Guido Hildner stated the importance of the bilateral relationship between the two countries and the priorities for cooperation between the two sides.

According to Mr. Hildner, the visit of German President Steinmeier to Vietnam is a highlight in bilateral relations between the two countries, bringing strong motivation and demonstrating Germany’s respect for Vietnam.

The visit is a personal wish of the President.

Ambassador Hildner commented that Vietnam has had impressive development over the past decades and Germany has accompanied and supported Vietnam.

Education is one of the focuses of cooperation between the two countries, for example the field of vocational training that Germany has participated in for many years.

The two countries also strengthened cooperation on energy, environment and climate change.

In addition, according to the German diplomat, the large Vietnamese community in Germany with hundreds of thousands of people is an important bridge between the two sides.

The German Ambassador expressed his hope that the cooperative relationship between the two countries will continue and strengthen in both economic and political aspects.

Two areas of cooperation between the two sides that Mr. Hildner sees as having potential are energy conversion and high-skilled labor.

Germany wants to support Vietnam moving towards renewable energy sources and away from fossil energy sources such as coal.

In addition, the two countries can also cooperate on recruiting highly skilled Vietnamese workers for Germany.

Ambassador Hildner commented that Vietnam is an important country in the Indo-Pacific, a central member of ASEAN, and the importance of the Indo-Pacific is increasing.

Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany established diplomatic relations on September 23, 1975.

During German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Vietnam in October 2011, the two countries established a strategic partnership.
