(Dan Tri) – Israel has fiercely attacked the Gaza Strip, as the war continues after a week-long ceasefire.

Gaza’s Hamas-run health agency said at least 178 people were killed and dozens injured, while the Israeli military claimed to have struck more than 200 targets in the area since the ceasefire expired.

Israel attacked Jababliya and Gaza City in the north, Khan Younes and Rafah in the south and al-Maghazi in central Gaza.

Previously, Israel accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire, including firing rockets from Gaza toward Israel.

`This is a war against children,` United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) spokesman James Elder said in a video filmed at a hospital in Gaza.

He said that medical facilities in Gaza were operating at 200% capacity.

Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross Robert Mardini told CNN on December 1 that the `nightmare` for civilians trapped in the Israel-Hamas war has returned as fighting resumes in Gaza.

`The nightmare has returned for civilians in this conflict. Of course, for the people of Gaza as well as the Israelis on the other side. The 7-day lull has made a huge difference in terms of humanitarian assistance.`

Mr. Mardini emphasized the importance of hoping for another armistice agreement.

Six Israelis were released by Hamas on the evening of November 31.

The Palestinian militant group said it was ready to extend the ceasefire in Gaza, after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for the ceasefire to continue.

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas took effect on November 24 with the mediation role of the US, Qatar and Egypt.

During the week-long ceasefire, Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza released about 80 hostages, most of them Israeli, in exchange for the release of 240 Palestinians from Israeli prisons.

The Israeli military estimates that about 240 people were taken hostage and taken to Gaza during Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.

In retaliation for the attack, Israel vowed to `obliterate` Hamas, bombed Gaza relentlessly and launched a ground offensive on October 27 that lasted until the start of a ceasefire in October.

According to Palestinian officials, more than 15,000 people, including at least 6,150 children and teenagers under 18, were killed in Israeli attacks.
